Interview with J.P. McMahon

What motivated you to become an indie author?
What motivated me to become an indie author is the simple fact that I love to write. I love to write and I wanted to share my writing and my stories, but did not have the money to self publish, and i did not have the kind of connection with a publisher. I think that anyone who wants to write should write, and I truly believe that anyone should get published, not just the people who might happen to have a friend who works in the industry or the people who have the money to self publish through various other services. Some people don't have the money these company's want for their services but it absolutely does not detract from what they have to offer as writers. There are a lot of awesome stories in the world and every one of them deserves to be read.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Honestly the greatest joy in writing for me is freedom. Freedom to express and create, it is also like living in a blockbuster movie your whole life. Writing is my escape from the world. I think if everyone had that place where they could retreat to have some time for themselves the world would be a more peaceful place. I really just love to create, I think that is greatest joy that comes in writing for me.
What do your fans mean to you?
What do my fans mean to me, in a word…EVERYTHING! As any creative person you love to create be it music, food, painting or drawings, or in my case stories and you will keep doing the things that make you happy and that you love to create. But when other people like them to it makes you step back and say ‘wow’ and it only makes you want to deliver bigger and better for them, and it only encourages you to keep going and doing what you’re doing and to push the boundaries of your own creativity.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I’m not writing I’m usually spending time with my wife and family. Sometimes going on walks and listening to music. I have also been known to play guitar and spend more than a little time looking over Magic The Gathering cards building decks and wishing I had someone who knew how to play, as well as surfing the gamesworkshop website. I also really like to paint and spend time with my family.
What is your dream?
My biggest dream would be doing some work for Black Library. I love books from Warhammer fantasy backdrop. In fact that is probably what most of my book collection is. Not to mention the world Gamesworkshop and the Black Library have created has heavily influenced me in my own writing. Not to mention if you work for the Black Library you are around what I think are some amazing writers.
