Interview with J.R. Winter

Who are your favorite authors?
Tom Clancy and Orson Scott Card, in that order, among other influences.
What do your fans mean to you?
I believe in a higher standard of content for my novels.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I love the Kindle App!
What do you read for pleasure?
Most of the time I read the fiction works of Tom Clancy or Orson Scott Card.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Making sure that my fiction stories speak for themselves. Word of mouth does the rest.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Northern Utah. I was always surrounded by family and friends who are fascinated by military science fiction. That being said: Star Trek, Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica are no small topics where I'm from, among other influences.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was in my youth. I had wanted to write a novel for years, so I decided to write "Daniel Storm." It's my first professional military science fiction work, and far from my last professional military science fiction work.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Humanity attempting to colonize other planets, and the possible events that could happen thereafter. I think this is a very relevant story, and fills a very high-in-demand niche, considering all of the talk by NASA and other reputable and knowledgeable government agencies on the subject in the last decade.
What motivated you to become an author?
I've always been an author! My motivation came from a natural desire I've had since I was very young to write military science fiction. My primary way to earn a living is to write military science fiction. I do have other work that I do that closely relates to my military science fiction writing. More details on that are coming. I recommend my fans keep checking the blog I write for, chroniclesofaaen.blogspot.com, and especially check out my Facebook page.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I get out of bed each day to write my military science fiction.
