Interview with Jackie Mason

What are you working on next?
Right now, I am taking a break from the apocalypse series and writing a suspense novel. This one will be different, with aspects of the paranormal and some fantasy thrown in for good measure. I can tire of my old characters, but like those I care for in real life, I'm always anxious for a reunion. I am hoping to publish The Bridge sometime this fall.
Who are your favorite authors?
Number one for years and years: Stephen King. Lots of other great writers out there, too. Justin Cronin is fairly new to me-within the last 5 years or so. Also a fan of some of Dean Koonts. Love the late Michael Crichton works, and I love the magical imagination of J K Rowling and Suzanne Collins. I am hoping to read more Indie authors. I like Jeremy Laszlo, Paul Antony Jones, and Brian Harmon. There are so many great writers out there, often lost in the massive world of epubs, but it is exciting to discover the ones you want to follow. Most of the time, I feel great writing will eventually find an audience. Unfortunately, it is usually a long road.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My best friend and husband, Michael. Also, my Mom, who is also my best friend-the one I can discuss all things not mundane or superficial. I also can't forget our pet menagerie. Love, love, love my non-human friends. And, of course, the thing I'd love to do with all my spare time that I have so little of: creating new worlds via writing.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Being with my husband and family, working, painting-not near enough time for that. I have too many interests and too little time!
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Research by author or subject matter. Sometimes word of mouth.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No. My memory doesn't go back that far. What was the question again?
What is your writing process?
I have no process other than letting a few ideas germinate. Then my muse takes over when I get my hands on a real keyboard. Love my Kindle. Hate the virtual hunt-and-peck board. Sometimes the finicky b!#$& (yes, my muse is female) demands notes and research but that's to be expected, I suppose.

Jayden Newberry is very creative when she retaliates against her cheating husband. She needs a life-changing event but she isn't expecting it to come in the form of an apocalypse. The wind carries whispers and acidic rain, and it is the end of life as Jayden and her group of survivors know it. The shuffling dead are the immediate threat, unscrupulous humans another. What, not who, created it?
