Interview with Dean Gould

Published 2018-02-17.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town, Lehigh Acres, Fl until I was 11 years old. It was an all-American kind of town, a sort of Mayberry RFD, where everyone left their doors unlocked and kids could ride their bikes all over town without being worried.

Then, in 1972, I moved to the big city of Tampa, Fl.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote my first book in 2004 and it was a huge success. I just wrote a 2nd Edition of The Greatest Sales Book Ever Written and will use 30% of the profit to benefit cancer research.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My dad, Gerald Gould, has had an amazing life. I've sat in awe and watched him overcome tremendous obstacles only to come back even stronger. Through it all, you never knew when times were tough. I asked myself, and I still ask myself, what are the secretes to his happiness and his success. Surely there are amazing lessons in his life that if shared could benefit millions of people.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Sharing information that can better other people's lives. Learn from my mistakes, my accomplishments and my observations.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on a customer service book.
Who are your favorite authors?
Dr. Wayne Dyer
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Helping people succeed.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
With my wife and 2 kids.
What is your writing process?
Observe something and type it down.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I-pad
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
affiliate marketing

What is your goal for your most recent book?
That it will inspire people to change some of the things in their life that are holding them back. To raise money for the Jonathan Jaques Children Cancer Center which does research for children cancer as well as heals children of these horrible diseases.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I've learned a lot of important knowledge from many great mentors over my life; especially my mom and dad. Its not my knowledge to hold back but to share and hopefully help others. My dad had an incredible happy and successful life. Whether he was on top of the world in business or battling the IRS for what they claimed to be $1.5m in back taxes, you never knew. He was always having a great day. He was the master at having a Positive Mental Attitude and he turned that into incredible success both personally and professionally.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans are everything. If people don't like your writing you won't sell the first book but besides that I've spent over 25 years in sales. I like people and so I like connecting with fans. It has given me great joy to connect with so many fans of my first book, The Greatest Sales Book Ever Written and to learn how much it has helped people in their lives and professional careers.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The Marathon Man. What an amazing maze of characters and stories coming together in the end to create a horrifying but real depiction of evil of humans to other humans. But back to more positive things.............
