Interview with Jeane' Sashi

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grow up in Los Angeles, California. When I was in high school, I loved to write. I would write in my diary daily; I wished I still had those diaries today. Writing an essay for the Mayor's Award influenced my love of writing. I won the contest and from there I continued to write.
When did you first start writing?
I first starting writing in high school.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The latest book that I am currently writing is a spin-off from my first two books...erotic romance with a bit of intrigue.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I became an indie author from my research of the writing and publishing industry. I weighed my options of self-publishing as opposed to traditional publishing.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has given me another platform to showcase my books.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When I am writing, I am able to just let my imagination go. Go to places that I haven't been before. Write from my heart.
What do your fans mean to you?
I love my fans. Whether I receive a 1-star review or a 5-star review. The feedback of my fans is very important to me.
What are you working on next?
The book I am currently working on is a spin-off from my first two books.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have a lot of favorite authors. But, I love Leo Tolstoy and Herman Melville.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I love life. I haven't used an alarm clock in years. My body gets me up automatically.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love watching old classic movies, listening to music, playing with my dogs, and I'm an avid walker.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I do. It was an essay for high school. It was submitted for the Mayor's award and believe it or not, it won. I don't remember the name of the short story, but it was about our city.
What is your writing process?
I really don't have a writing process. I just go with the flow. When the words form in my head that 's when the writing begins. I don't like doing outlines. I'm more of a pantster. I do like to listen to music while I'm writing and have junk food near by as my snacks of choice.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes, of course. I was a big fan of the Nancy Drew mysteries growing up. I would get lost in the stories and pretend I was Nancy Drew.
How do you approach cover design?
I have a designer that designs my covers. I supply him with the stock photos and the synopsis of my book and he works his magic. My vision would be all over the place, thus causing me not to know what I really want as a cover, but with his expertise, he pulls it off.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I love War and Peace. The storyline is intense as is the storyline for Moby Dick and Little Women. Those books have me so grasped in them that I have read them several times. The Karen Marie Moning Fever Series has captivated my attention in the last few years as well.
What do you read for pleasure?
For pleasure I like to read Paranormal books. It seems as though I have gotten into reading those lately and find them quite interesting. I also like reading non-fiction books.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I read from my iPad as I have the Kindle and Nook apps on that device. I also have a Nook.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Books Tours have been effective for me with marketing my books as of lately. Also, wearing a certain T-shirt when I am out in public.
Describe your desk
My desk is neat. I can not work on a messy desk. My desk consists of my laptop, a drink and a snack. Simple.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
My of my ebooks were recommendations or free books. But for the most part, I search through B&N and Amazon and lately Kobo for books that would be of interest to me. Price doesn't matter to me. If the books appears interesting, I will pay the price.
