Interview with Natasha Paige

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Drinking wine with friends! There's nothing more relaxing or therapeutic for me. But when I'm not doing that I'm reading. I love to read, I don't think you can be a good author if you're not a good reader.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I just browse. Whatever genre I'm in the mood for, I go to that section, wonder the virtual aisles and read the blurbs. I've discovered a lot of my new favorite authors this way.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes! I was in 7th grade. It was about this really thick 'fog' that was actually a brain eating parasite. They ate your brain, drove you crazy, made you kill people, etc. The title was 'Nosh', I remember my English teacher really liked the name but not much else about it.
What is your writing process?
That is still a work in process. Right now I get an idea, I sit down and start typing. I compare it to a potter, they have to pile up all the clay on the wheel before they go in, carve away excess and create something. I pile all my words onto the page then go back and chisel away until I create a story. But I would like to start utilizing outlines, maybe one day....
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Seems like I came out of the womb reading so this is a hard one for me. The first story I can remember having an impact on me, is a book titled "Beginning to Feel the Magic" by Linda R. Weltner. It was about a young girl going through, what at the time I thought were very difficult, adult situations. I was 10 at the time and I remember being so impressed with how brave Julie was through it all and how at the end of the book her hope and excitement for the future was increased due to the trials she had been through. I'd like to read it again.
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything. I'll try any genre, any author, at least once. My favorite genre right now is 'Horror', I really enjoy monster stories where unlikely people have to come together for the good side to win. Cheesy, I know.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I'm a Nook paper white girl. It's a simple device that I can actually work and I can read it in ANY light. That is the number one important detail. I take my Nook with me everywhere, from the beach to hockey games. I need to be able to read it in those places too.
Describe your desk
Ummm, I work on my bed. It's comfy and when writing gets hard I can take a nap and re-charge. If only all of life was like that.
When did you first start writing?
Christmas of my 6th grade year, not sure how old I would have been, I asked for a typewriter for Christmas and I've been testing my wings ever since.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Oh wow, I'm going deep here. From where I'm from, the way I grew up, failure was, is and always will be the expectation for me. I refuse to let 'them' be proven right.
