Interview with Jill Boger

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the Bridgewater Triangle in Massachusetts, so almost everything I write takes place around Norfolk County.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in third grade and it was genuinely awful Harry Potter fanfiction, but I'd like to think I've gotten better since then.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I used to write/be Editor-in-Chief for my branch of the Odyssey, which made most of its money on listicles like a second-rate Buzzfeed. I want to do a collection of that kind of writing for a town where weird things happen.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I initially self-published because I needed more money for school, and because I was angry that my dad called me lazy.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Editing. It's my real love.
What are you working on next?
Too many projects for my own good.
Who are your favorite authors?
Jack Kerouac, Judy Blume, and Evelyn Waugh.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The promise that today might be better than yesterday.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Complaining on Twitter, where I'm @Jill_Boger. Also, teaching.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
My friends OR the HarperCollins twitter account. I am big on Twitter.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It had to do with Harry Potter and Thanksgiving. First "screenplay" was a Star Wars parody.
