Interview with John N. King

What is your e-reading device of choice?
Usually fanfiction on my mobile phone or Mac laptop.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A new type of monster horror story revolving around cute monsters that turn people into more of them. It's still in development, but it's the latest idea I have.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to bring my characters to life.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My characters. Whether I hear the gunnery sergeant I wrote yelling at me in my dreams, or I think about how my personal favorite characters would be up and at them, they are always the ones getting me up in the morning.
What do you read for pleasure?
Tui T. Sutherland's "Wings of Fire," Rick Riordan's "Heroes of Olympus," and MLP Fanfiction on Don't disregard the third option, there are some diamonds in the rough.
What is your writing process?
I usually play video games and watch movies until I see something that inspires me. Then I find a way to turn the story into something new involving characters that I've written.
When did you first start writing?
When I was in middle school. That's when I first started writing my characters that I would later use for my flash fiction.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
They have given me the chance to showcase my work and get my name out to my audience.
Who are your favorite authors?
Tui T. Sutherland and Rick Riordan.
What do your fans mean to you?
I want my fans to help me improve what they love. If there's something they don't understand, I want them to ask, and I'll explain it as best I can. If they think something's wrong, they can tell me politely what they think I can improve, and I will do my best to make sure my stories satisfy them.
