Interview with Judy Edwards

What do you read for pleasure?
I love a good romance or a mystery with a twist.
Who are your favorite authors?
I enjoy Nora Roberts (who doesn't love a romance), Stephen King (can scare the pants off of a reader), Patricia Cornwell (always has a twist that makes my brain work overtime), and many more.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use my Samsung Tablet on the go and laptop at other times.
Describe your desk
My desk is versatile - sometimes it is very formal in front of a desktop computer in the study while other times it is sitting in the recliner with the laptop in front of me.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have an aversion to rejection. My fear was that I would not find a publisher interested in reading my story. As an indie author, if people like the first story they will want to read the next one. Besides, Smashwords makes the process very easy!
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I am very new to the game, but Facebook has allowed me to get the word out to family and friends. I recently started a Twitter account, against the wishes of my children, and also have a website - Destiny by Design.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
As a preacher's daughter, I spent my childhood in various places which introduced me to a variety of characters. Bits and pieces of these extraordinary individuals have shaped many of the characters in my stories.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I loved The Waltons growing up (I actually planned on marrying Jonboy when I was old enough). I wanted to share a story that allowed the reader to go back in time to a simpler life, when families were families. Hopefully I accomplished that in "Dawn of Destiny."
What are you working on next?
As part of the "Destiny by Design" Series, Book one is "Dawn of Destiny" and book two in the series is "Duel with Destiny." I will now start working on the 3rd installment in the series to pick up right where James and Bettie Lou left off.
What do you hope readers will take away from your books?
My greatest wish is that my readers will find characters that matter enough to them that they want to know what happens next. I want them to find honesty and integrity in the words, twists and turns in the plot, and a knowledge that good still triumphs over evil.
