Interview with Julie A. Barnes

Your novels contain elements of different genres. How would you classify your work?
Just as life is filled with drama, romance, and thrilling events, I write to combine the essence of these, while keeping it suitable for younger readers. My trilogy is a work of spiritual fiction.
I read that your stories contain coding. What does this mean?
I utilize a style of writing that conveys suggestions for well-being, combined with emotional content. This allows the subconscious mind to experience deep healing, all while being entertained.
What do your fans mean to you?
I've had readers contact me to tell me that my books have positively impacted their lives, which is my ambition, along with entertaining them. I derive great fulfillment from touching people's lives in this way. We're all on the planet together, as we work through our own evolution, so I enjoy extending a hand through the written word to assist with the journey.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
As a nurse of 20 years and an author, I write to uplift and heal people through entertainment. I've always been an avid reader, so I hone my writing into a form that I'd enjoy reading. I like to move the action forward quickly without unnecessary filler. The emotional component of character development is a priority, as well as concise language and vivid imagery.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to hike the Appalachian Mountains. Mother Nature is powerful here! I also read daily, researching new developments in health and science. There are so many delights to explore and discover.
What is your writing process?
I become extra focused when I listen to music, especially wearing headphones. There's a certain flow that begins, an effervescent kind of energy. I like to write in the morning and edit in the afternoon. It takes more time to sift and edit than to create the fresh material. Writing is a labor of love for me!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The sunshine, my children, my animals, the nearby forest, and that first cup of coffee.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I was eight when I wrote a short story about a pet duck that a family wanted to eat for a holiday, all except for the girl who loved him. A poignant tale called, "As the Moon Glows." Yes, I had a pet duck named Dilly!
