Interview with K.B. Bailey

Published 2019-09-17.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating an entirely new character, world, or idea out of a blank page.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on a few different projects. My main project is a thriller/mystery novel.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have so many. This is really difficult. I love Ursula K. LeGuin, Margaret Atwood, Stephen King, and Agatha Christie. I'm also a huge Steinbeck fan.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The idea of creating something new.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, playing video games, hanging out with my husband and cats, and hiking.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I love finding new authors on Twitter. I also browse the library's online collection often.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I started writing as a small child. My earliest stories were all fantasy. I remember writing about elves, a magic tree, and a clock mechanic who controlled time.
What is your writing process?
I usually come up with an idea, stew on it for a while, and then start writing it out in scenes. Once I have a basic idea, I outline chapters and go from there.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I was obsessed with horses as a young girl, so I read a ton of The Saddle Club books by Bonnie Bryant. I remember reading her books and thinking: this is what I want to do when I grow up! I want to be Bonnie Bryant!
What's your favorite genre?
I love literary novels, horror, mystery, thriller, and more. I try to read a little bit of everything!
