Interview with Tiya Rayne

What do you read for pleasure?
I usually read the same things I write. Romance, Definitely. I don't care if it's contemporary, fantasy, or western. I love Young Adult, because I'm a big kid at heart. My book shelf is full of everything from Harry Potter to Fifty Shades.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My iPhone right now. But, I'm working on my husband getting me a iPad. Fingers Crossed.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I'm really new to the marketing game and I'm still slowly getting my feet wet. My most successful technique so far is Facebook. I'm really active on my page and I love interacting with my readers and discussing my books.
Describe your desk
I don't have a desk. My writing usually takes place in my lap on the couch while my three year old watches television and plays games on the floor. Maybe when he's older I can be a normal writer and sit at a desk.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small country town in South Carolina. For Lilly, my small town experience was very beneficial to the story. Although, I didn't have it nearly as bad as Lilly. I love to write about small towns and the tight-nit communities. You will see that in a few of my other writing projects as well.
When did you first start writing?
I first started putting my stories to paper in 2005, however I've made up stories since I was a child. I was one of those kids who exaggerated the truth, a lot. I couldn't just leave my homework at home, I had to have left it at home because dogs were chasing me down the street after I saved a cat from a tree. Yeah, my mother got a lot of my better stories.
What's the story behind your latest book?
All my stories come to me in a scene or a dream, and I just build a entire world around that one scene. Lilly started off as a dream about a little girl and a handsome man. That was all the dream gave me, and I pumped it with all the extra. I loved the thought of a pregnant heroine. I had just had my son when this idea first came to me and I decided, Hey let's put a pregnant lady in this book. I mean, what's more entertaining than a hormonally high female trying to survive in a hostile world?
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love to write and tell a story and I wanted to do it my way. I didn't want to go through all the hustle and bustle and etiquette to go the traditional route.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The fan feed back. Hearing a reader tell you they enjoyed your hard work or when they want to discuss your book with you. That's what I love.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are the reason I do this. Simple as that.
What are you working on next?
So many things. I'm still finishing up The Dagger, which is book two in my Young Adult series. The Return is out and available now. I'm also working on Book three of Lilly and another adult Erotica that will be out later this year.
