Interview with K.D. Wilson

Published 2013-09-15.
What is your writing process?
My writing process is probably not much different from any other writers. First, I come up with the Plot once I have done this I then come up with the Title of the book. Once I have finished doing both of these things I begin my research and then sit down and begin writing.
How do you approach cover design?
My approach to the cover design is very unique. I first get a mental picture in my mind of what I would like the cover to look like. Then I sit down with one of my children (my daughter helped to design my first eBook cover; my son designed the second one). My daughter/son will then sit down and draw my idea down on paper once we have it the way I want it then she/he will draw it in the paint program on the computer. Once the design is completed I submit it along with my manuscript. My family is very talented and I like letting them be apart of designing my books.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
That it hard to say, I love to read. I would have to say Along Came a Spider, Kiss the Girls Goodnight, Hunger Games, Catching Fire and the Mocking Jay are some of my favorites. I love suspense/thriller books that keep you on the edge of your seat.
What do you read for pleasure?
Suspense thriller books that have me sitting on the edge of my chair. These type of books keep me wanting to turn the page and not put the book down until I finish the chapter.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
This is hard to say, I am still new in the field of e-reading and really do not have a preference at this time.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Other than book signings I would have to say setting up an author's page and blogging about my books. I also offer discounts, coupons and free reading samples to the readers to give them a reason to visit my site and check out my books.
Describe your desk
My desk, wow is there such a thing? I write on my laptop so my desk can be anywhere. I do have a nice desk in my office but I seldom use it. Most of the time I write at the counter, table, coffee shop or just have the laptop sitting on my lap.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town called Washington Court House Ohio. Living there had a big influence on me becoming a writer. Matter of fact my first book was inspired from my childhood when I lived there and there is no doubt that it helped me to become the person I am today.
When did you first start writing?
I have always loved to write. I believe I was around ten or eleven when I wrote my first Poem. I was in high school when I wrote a lot of short stories, but it wasn't until I was in my mid-thirties that I actually decided to follow my dream and become a published writer.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It is a Suspense/Thriller. It is about a young man who inherited everything from a grandmother that he never knew. While he is visiting the town and putting his affairs in order he learns of the sacrificing that takes place deep within the woods of the property that he has inherited and how coming to this small town has placed his own life in danger.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has allowed me to not only to publish one but two eBooks at the moment. I intend to publish more through them as well. They not only place my books in places like Barnes N Nobles, Amazon, Apple and other online bookstores they also link the books up through places like facebook, twitter and other social networking places. By doing these things they allow for my books to be reviewed and seen by others, they also offer them many sites to purchase the books from.
