Interview with Kris Alex

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Writing! I love to write. I breathe to write. I always have these ideas in my head, and I can't wait to put all the ideas on "paper" aka in Word. Also, my kids and my pets. I love to hang out around the house, and spend time with them.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to upcycle. I love to go to thrift stores, and make something old, new again. I love going to the movies too. And I love to watch Dr. Who! Huge Dr. Who fan.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was about unicorns and deer hunters. I was about 10 years old. I wrote it in my scrapbook. I know, pretty weird combination!
How do you approach cover design?
With simplicity. I think the simply the design, the better. I used to want to go all foo foo with my covers, but decided that it was best to keep it simple. I have a tendency to what to overdo! And that includes cover designs!
What do you read for pleasure?
Enquirer and Star Magazine. I love to catch up on the latest gossip! I am also a big fan of TMZ and Perez Hilton. But those are my "guilty reading pleasures". The books I enjoy reading are mostly self help books like The Secret. However, I am currently reading one of those throw away, trashy Harlequin romances!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle!
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Social media. I think social media is VERY important in a writer's life. The most important are Twitter, Facebook, and Linkdin.
Describe your desk
My lap! Since I work on my laptop, I put my laptop on me. I own a very oversized, and big comfy leather chair and ottoman that I write in. In front of me, one of those electric fireplaces. I feel as though I'm in my own log cabin.
When did you first start writing?
When I was 10 years old
What's the story behind your latest book?
Heroin. My story, "Thief" is about a divorced woman who is just trying to make it in this world. But when she gets robbed a few times by thieves, she gets extremely upset. Especially since she finds out that most of the robberies in town has to do with the town's heroin addiction just like the town I currently live in today. Lots of people are turning to a life of crime in order to support their drug habit. Unfortunately, it's everybody else in town who don't do drugs that end up facing the consequence of having their money or possessions stolen.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I just love writing. I love to share with others my thoughts, my passions, my heart.
