Interview with Kathie Fisher

What do you read for pleasure?
I read genealogy books. I like mysteries, love stories, historical novels, and cookbooks. I began reading very early. My Father loved to read and passed that trait on to me.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I am new to e-reading. I have a laptop and read on PDF or Adobe Digital Editions. I am just now realizing how nice it is to be able to enlarge text .
Describe your desk
I work with pictures. My desk is a large table, covered with pictures and research materials. I am the only one who can find anything on my desk.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Webster County W.V. I had extended family that lived near me. I had a first cousin who got me interested in genealogy. Having family around made me interested in finding out about my ancestors. Family structure is important to me.
When did you first start writing?
When I began researching my book, I found a "book" that I had written when I was about eight years old. It was written on notebook paper 2 inches by 3 inches. It was held together by a large safety pin. I have always written in my genealogy files, but this is the first time I have tried to write a book.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My Mom is a fantastic person. I wanted everyone to know about her struggles and successes. She has been a lifelong friend and example to all her children.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I purchased a book by Stephanie Zia. In it she recommended Smashwords. I like to try new things so I thought I would give it a try. I have spent a lot of time studying how- to books. I am still learning.
What are you working on next?
I am working on the next segment of my Mother's life starting in 1960.
Who are your favorite authors?
I started out a long time ago reading Zane Grey's westerns. I don't stick to just one author. If I see a book with an appealing cover I will give it a try.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I have a family to take care of so I get up early, make coffee and start breakfast. I have so many things I like to do that my only problem is deciding which one I want to work on next. I spend lots of time organizing my pictures. I try to find pictures of my ancestors, when I can. I have ten years of genealogy to organize. I love to sew quilt tops and I enjoy crafting. I enjoy time with my great grandsons. I collect cookbooks and like to try new recipes, especially desserts. I like to watch news shows. I like knowing what is going on in the world.
