Interview with KM Aul

Where did your love of books and writing come from?
Education has always been important in my family. I was reading the Encyclopedia Britannica at a very young age because I found the information fascinating.
How long have you been writing?
I think that I wrote my first story when I was about six years old. My first published work was back in the 80’s under a different pseudonym.
What kind(s) of writing do you do?
I write mainly Science Fiction/Fantasy with a Godly theme to it. I have written in other genres and will be exploring more of that going forward.
How does your book relate to your spiritual practice.
I am a Christian, and it affects everything that I do including my writing. My characters are put into uncomfortable situations for people of Faith and are forced to make decisions and/or deal with the consequences of their actions in that framework.
What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?
DULCET is the second book in a series. This book focuses on a girl with a power much bigger than she is and her ability to not only cope with it but learn to use it to eventually help humanity survive. I think that comes through well in the story.
What was the hardest part of writing this book?
Trying to think like a young girl and especially a teenage girl. I am a gentleman of some years, so it was a bit of an effort.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
Like most of my writing, there comes a point where the characters take on a life of their own, and the story becomes theirs. This happened very quickly with DULCET. I was interested to see what would happen next as my readers.
What inspires you?
Several things inspire me when I write, but I would say that music is my main inspiration while writing. Many of the scenes in all of my books are directly related to songs that I was listening to at the time.
What projects are you working on at the present?
I am currently working on the next installment of the Senses Novels series. I think that the next book will surprise a lot of people, it is absolutely unique.
What do your plans for future projects include?
I have several ideas in mind. I want to explore the subject of time travel from an aspect that I don’t think anyone has yet. I also have an idea for a fiction novel based on true historical events. I think my readers will be pleased with the new projects coming out. Even after the Senses Novels series ends, we may see one or two characters in books of their own.
