What is your e-reading device of choice?
The nook but I use my smart phone and LG Tablet. The kindle app and playbooks are downloaded on all three devices.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Right now, I'm getting the word out by using friends and family, social media (facebook and tweeter).
Describe your desk
Laptop, space for my writing notebooks, pens and pencils, post it.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born on the island of Jamaica, where I lived for 9 years until I moved to Bronx, New York. Living in Jamaica without access to television, I used to get lost in reading. My imagination created many characters and that's where my writing began. I didn't pursue it until I went back to college and discovered my love for writing. I felt more confident that I can create the characters from my romance novels and other books myself.
When did you first start writing?
I used to write love poems for my boyfriends as a teen and young adult,
What's the story behind your latest book?
It was about a young women coming into her sexual self. She had a sexually repressed upbringing and was always doing the right thing. Being a good girl, pleasing her boyfriend and mother. She unleashed her sexual self when she met an older and sexy man in a club. Parts of herself was buried deep within.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
When a friend approached me to collaborate with her and to publish on our own. I always thought that I would go the traditional route until I saw that there were many successful indie authors out there, following their publishing dreams. It's a lot of work and dedication to be a indie author. I have so much respected for them now that I'm included in that category.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords allowed me to make my dream come true by distributing my books to other platforms and just helping me to become a published author. The Marketing tips and formatting my book into epub wasn't easy but I am grateful that I discovered Smashwords.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Immersing myself into the story and developing the characters. I love to be inside their head and sometimes I have to struggle to stay on track but it's the best feeling to create a story from scratch and making it real. I love writing as much as reading. This had always been what I intended to do.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on A Jamerican Dream, A Coming of Age Story about a young girl's journey from Jamaica to American, and the hardships she had to overcome before coming to America. I'm also writing a New Adult romance that's still in the works. A Jamerican Dream is completed and will be released by the end of November. I'm also writing the prequel to A Jamerican Dream and a cook book with all the recipes that my character loved in the book.
What do your fans mean to you?
I love when I get feedback from my fans. Words can't express how grateful I am when someone buys my book and enjoyed the story. Even if I get a negative response I'm still grateful. I want my fans to reach out to me and tell me how they like the story and give me feedback about new characters. And if they want me to continue the story. I love any type of response from my fans. They mean the world to me because they are supporting me. It encourages me to write to be better and it inspires me to continue bringing great characters to life. People read for different reasons and if I can make someone happy with my stories, then it's well worth the time and effort that it takes to write a great book.
Who are your favorite authors?
John Grishman, Sidney Sheldon, Danielle Steele, Nora Roberts, James Patterson, Mary Higgins Clark, Agatha Christie, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Zane, Eric Jerome Dickey. In the romance category, Indie authors, Devon Hartford, M.S. Parker, Helen Cooper, Jaime Cooper, Eve Carter and Blair Babylon.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Being a mother to my son and knowing that I'm working towards my goals and aspirations. I always wanted to be a published author and I am now fulfilling that dream. I want to work full time as an author and will work to make it happen. I always strive to never give up even when the dream or goal seem far-fetched. Instilled those values into my son and know that it takes hard work and dedicated to make things happen for yourself.
