Interview with Michael Ferrer

What is your writing process?
I find that letting the writing flow on the page without being too strict on form, and having a basic idea of what you want to write is what works best for me. I like to think of writing as organized chaos, meaning that you know what you want to write but you let the writing take over.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
There are many that have had an impact on me. So I will answer with the one that impacted me the most and inspired me to write. It is The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx. His writing style and the way that he opened himself up like a book (no pun intended) showed me that sometimes we need to get out of our comfort zone. This inspired me to write Soundtrack of My Soul: A Look Into the Life, Death and Rebirth of a Schizoaffective Man.
When did you first start writing?
I don't remember a day where I did not write. When I was a child, my therapist actually gave me my first journal. It gave me the chance to get my thoughts out of my mind. Once I got into High School, I began reading Shakespeare. This showed me how to write poetry. I began writing songs and short stories.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Soundtrack of My Soul: A Look Into the Life, Death and Rebirth of a Schizoaffective Man is an in depth look into what it looks like to deal with a mental disorder, specifically schizoaffective disorder, through my eyes in order to give the reader a different view point and bring them into a greater understanding of the struggle that many deal with.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Putting a message out there for the reader. Whether it is my biography or a fictional story I believe that every story must have a message behind them.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are the reason that I write. I look at people that seldom have a voice in this world and they motivate me to be that voice. To me, my fans are and will always be the reason. They complete me. Any writer that says otherwise is kidding themselves, because without fans we would not have Shakespeare, Rowling, Sixx, Chernow and every other writer.
Thank you to my fans! I love you!
What are you working on next?
I am working on two new projects.
-Soundtrack of My Soul: Volume 2. This is more of a poetry and photography book. It definitely is not your normal photography book because there are images that will deal with current issues and the poetry will flow from them.

-The second book is a book of short stories in the horror genre. I find things that most people are afraid of, put a profound message into it, and create stories that make you think. Anything that makes the reader think.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have many authors that I absolutely love. Nikki Sixx, J.K. Rowling, Ron Chernow, J.R.R. Tolkien, William Shakespeare, Jim Graywolf Petruzzi and many others.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I am inspired by the knowledge that each day is another day filled with lessons, blessings, and meaning. But they only come if I am willing to work on myself, love myself and motivate myself. (Even on really bad days)
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I try to write every chance that I can. But when I am not writing, I try to spend a ton of time with my wife and kids. I also am attempting to go to school to get my Bachelor's Degree in Communication at Colorado State University Global Campus. It is all about timing and how we use it.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
There are so many to list, but here is my list:
1. This is Gonna Hurt by Nikki Sixx
2. The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx
3. The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
4. Walking With Earth Mother by Jim Graywolf Petruzzi
5. The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
