Interview with Bonny Dolla

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a Kakamega, a town on the western side of Kenya, in a relatively poor neighborhood. I grew up knowing that people have to aspire, work and believe in order to be something. One of the biggest input of this environment into my writing is the belief that just by believing one can move mountains in life, what matters most is where you are going, the place you find yourself is just the start and cannot hold you back if you decide to believe.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was fifteen years old. At the moment I had just joined secondary school, having transferred from a day school to a boarding school that was far from home I encountered alot of frustrations which I started to release in form of poems, essays and songs. That is how my writing carreer started.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has given me a platform to showcase my work, share the ideas I have discovered and grow in writing.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite author is Myles Munroe
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Recommendations and indepth examination.
How do you approach cover design?
I try to do my own cover design.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to be a doctor at first, because I wanted to help people. Then I discovered that I loved reading and expressing myself through writing and over time, I have come to love the fact that I can get to help many people through researching and writing good stuff, just like the doctors and still enjoy the job.
What are you working on next?
Am working on a number of projects one of which is a poetry version of the book, "The Perception Theory".
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I read, play soccer, exercise and sing. I also spend much time with friends and family, just having nice moments together.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
One of the first stories I ever read was about the elephants in Kenya. The story was written in such a way that I could visualize the elephants as they moved in peoples gardens destroying crops, it had been a story about elephants which had broken loose from their reserves. That story made me fall in love with words, well written words, I just wanted to write better.
