Interview with Kim Burkhardt

Who are your favorite authors?
In no particular order:

1) Fyodor Dostoevsky
3) J.k. Rowling
4) Political analysts, broadly speaking. Examples include Connie Rice (Condi's cousin), Kevin Phillips, Paul Palango
5) Charles Dickens
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Two Himalayans who have taken their rightful place in the center of the universe.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Reaching out to communities of readers who have a connection to the book and/or it's topic. It's basic marketing - who has an in interest in the topic and how/where can I most easily reach that community of readers? That's pretty broad, though. Specifically, writing articles in trade publications for people of specific community, doing presentations to groups who will have an interest in the book, posting comments in online discussion groups, getting the book into the hands of a "thought leader" who will help spread "word of mouth" about the book.
Describe your desk
A wooden desk that's about 5 1/2 feet long and two feet deep. I try to keep it clean, but it gets buried under scribbled notes. I have to clean the desk about every three months.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing how well my writing improves over time.
What do you read for pleasure?
Political commentary, biographies of political leaders, and socio-demographic analysis of medieval Europe.
