Interview with Kimberley Payne

Published 2013-09-07.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I like to start each day with, "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it!"
When did you first start writing?
I started writing as a child, mainly in my diary and later in my journal. I had penpals throughout school and loved to write poetry and stories about the adventures I had with my friends. But I never thought of myself as creative.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a city of 70,000, 1.5 hours east of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I now live 20 minutes away from my childhood home (where my parents still live), although I've lived in 5 different towns since I moved out at age 18 to attend university.
Describe your desk
My desk is a u-shaped cherrywood desk that I've had for over 15 years. It has moved to three different homes with me and keeps me organized.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I prefer to be outdoors; whether bicycling in the summer, hiking in the fall or snowshoeing in the winter months I like to be enjoying nature.
What do you read for pleasure?
I like to read Harlequin's Inspired Romantic Suspense. I prefer the suspense aspect but like a little romance sprinkled in the mix.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Friend recommendations and GoodReads.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love to share what I learn with others. Whether it's about my faith, about health and fitness, or about raising children I like to share with other women what works for me.
Who (or what) is your greatest encourager when you write and why?
My readers. When they email me, or leave a comment on my blog I feel encouraged that someone is reading my works and gaining something from it.
What are you working on next?
I'm currently working on a faith-based activity book for children. Written for seven to nine-year-old students, ADAM’S ANIMALS features over 40 animals mentioned in the Bible, plus fascinating facts about each animal. This book entertains while it teaches.
