Interview with KD Stout

When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was seven years old. I wrote stories and drew the characters. I wrote my first novel when I was twelve years old.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Outsiders: I have loved books about groups of people like friends and families. I also like to read stories that tells how the group of people working together and dealing with life together.

Anne of Green Gables (series): I have always been fascinated with the Victorian and Edwardian Eras. I also liked the romantic story between Anne and Gilbert. I practically fell in love with Gilbert.
What do you read for pleasure?
I like to read drama novels, entertainment magazine articles, biography novels, and information articles or books about animals.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
So far, Facebook has been helping me getting my name and my novels out in public.
What are the names of your published Novels?
"We're Finally On Our Own" and "Plus Ten and More".
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Kaysville, Utah. The friends that I grew up influenced me to write one of my novels. I grew up in the 1980s, and the music that was on the radio was fun and exciting and it gave me a lot of inspiration to write stories.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story that I am writing now is 40% based on my friends and me growing up. Each one of us was born differently: some with physical disabilities and social difficulties. It also tells how we dealt with dealing with bullying and teachers that were rough. However, I added some fun "entertainment" to this story that I am planning on making it into a series.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to be a writer since I was a little girl. Since I was a teenager, I realized that I had it in my blood and knew I wanted to get my stories published. Since the internet came along, I have been feeling blessed to be able to get my work published and share it with anyone.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I don't know yet, because I just joined this site. I am excited to see how this will turn out.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I get to make the characters that appear in my head come to life on paper on screens. It is also therapeutic for me.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything... I enjoy know that people like my stories and that they have inspire them in life.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I do... I remember it was during the year 1985, and I was laying on my bed listening to the radio, and some of the songs being played were inspiring fictional characters into my head and their background stories. I had no idea where they were coming from. As days went by, the story of my first novel was coming about, and I started writing that story when I was twelve years old.
What is your writing process?
Listening to songs or movies or television shows that I know that will inspire me to write or help make the plot of my stories stronger.
How do you approach cover design?
I like to draw, so if I can - I like to design them myself, especially if I can draw those characters.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Laptop or Kindle.
Describe your desk
Very messy... My laptop, snacks, a drink, and notepads.
What are you working on next?
Well, I just finally finished my family saga story. I would like to work on a story series that half of it is based on true events and the other half is fiction.
