Interview with Jackie Dowse

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The very first story I wrote was back in Jr. High. It was an adventure story about a group of four kids going back in time and meeting historical figures and pushing them to the historical figures "true path". I.E. The kids encouraged George Washington to cross the Delaware.
What is your writing process?
My writing process is that when an idea pops into my head. I jot it down next to my computer and quickly write the chapter. Than I finish writing the chapter, I push it to the side for about a half a day. Than I go and start to edit like there is no tomorrow. I feel the most comfortable after five edits.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Well, the first story that I read and enjoyed was the Cam Jansen- the mystery series. I always wished I had her photographic memory but it helped me memorize small details. Also, I never knew a girl detective be so fun.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My five favorite books are:
Notorious Gentlemen series by Susan Enoch - I love this series. It was unabashedly my gateway drug into historical romance. I love the idea about a man being a thief (righteously) who lives in a respectable position by day, then having to deal with their powerful ladies.

If we want to go traditional, I particularly love D.H. Lawrence especially Lady Chatterley's Lover and Women in Love.

Any works by Anais Nin. I've always found her life interesting and her words powerful. I jump between the lives of her characters and having a cup of coffee with Anais, discussing her latest exploits. She is truly an amazing and innovative writer I have always admired.

Returning to traditional romance, I also love The Secret by Julie Garwood. It's Julie Garwood. There is no other explanation.

The Wallflower Series by Lisa Kleypas- I enjoyed reading her series books because it deals with family love and romance love. Kleypas clutches the soul and doesn't let go. I love her.
What do you read for pleasure?
I think I shall not say :)
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Amazon Kindle.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the Midwest. It influenced me to look beyond people's facade. Not everything is made to perfectly fit on a cookie sheet.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I always enjoyed the World War II era of history. So why not do a different forbidden romance story.
