Interview with L.C. Alex

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Characters are what interest me most. I spend a lot of time getting to know my characters before and during their creation. Physical characteristics, temperament, personal history, psychology: the things that comprise each living soul magnetize me and energize my writing efforts.
What are you working on next?
My focus at present is a futuristic sci-fi novel, set in a dystopic, mechanized society. Written in first person point of view through the tortured mind of a man afflicted with nihilism, nostalgia and dysthymia, the story serves up deep existential and psychological introspection. The novel will bear heavy themes: suffering, free will, angst, and death, to name a few.
Do you think your stories could be adapted to a screenplay?
Most definitely. As I'm creating my stories, I imagine each scene as though it were appearing on a screen in my mind. The colors, sounds, music and characters provide a colorful and interesting collage that could easily be worked into a play or film.
What is your writing process?
Next time I'll choose a question that will interest you. Truly, if you had to watch me writing at my desk as a pre-requisite for reading my novels, I think we'd both fail miserably.
My process is dull and boring, at least superficially. There's a lot going on mentally that I'm sure I could drum up and wrap in a tight yellow ribbon but I won't.
