Interview with Laurel C. Winchester

How do you approach cover design?
When I write a short story, the characters are already envisioned in my mind-or sometimes the idea of what the character should look like comes to mind as I am writing. I am very serious about the models I use for my characters, if they don't look close to what I have envisioned I am not satisfied.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Fifty Shades of Grey
Interview with a Vampire

I have many favorites, but these three are the ones that stick out for me.
What do you read for pleasure?
I don't want to generalize, but I think like most women, I love a good romance novel-but it has to be hot, with a lot of passion.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
1 on 1 with potential readers interested in reading what I have written-seems to work well for me. I also give out bookmarks.
Describe your desk
I'm a neat freak. Everything has to be in it's place. I have my computer, printer and a cup filled with pens. When I am at my desk working I usually have a mug of my favorite coffee to get me through a project.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing about 20 years ago. A lot of it was for my eyes only, but then when I joined various sites of actors I was into at the time-I started writing fan fiction and was able to test the waters of my writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Who doesn't love a tall handsome, dark haired, virile man. Who has a bit of insufferable arrogance about him? I took a story that has been done to death (Older man, younger hot wife) and simply put my own twist on it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I never really intended to send any of my works to a publisher. And it is my understanding you have to have an agent to be your mediator. I don't have an agent as of yet, but perhaps one day. Now is the time to be a writer and be published on your own terms. It's still a lot of work entailed.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being a reader first, and seeing another angle the writer could have went in-prompted me to write my own works.
