Interview with La Deema Burns

When did you first start writing?
In 2014, God called me to write my first book.
What's the story behind your latest book or series of books?
The upcoming series of "Blooming Into Your Purpose" provides hope and healing to both the reader and co-authors while empowering and encouraging others to BLOOM into their God-given purpose.
What motivated you to become a published author?
The guidance of the Lord with His Holy Spirit led me to write about where He has brought me from and where He is taking me. I am tasked to help the people He places before me to encourage them to step into their purpose - the purpose God has assigned to them before the beginning of time. The "Blooming Into Your Purpose" series will enable me to assist people around the globe.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When people tell me how much they see themselves in the book and that it gave them hope, I am encouraged - knowing that God is helping them through it all. He is showing Himself to them through me. I am honored to know God chose me and that the power of His will is leading them closer to Him as they share with me how they see His power working in their lives.
What do your followers mean to you?
The followers mean a great deal to me. No one can accomplish anything great by themselves. We need the support of a TEAM. Without followers, this work would not have seen the success and great reviews it has received. They are my encouragement. They keep me pushing to keep moving forward. We need each other. Without them, I can't do what I need to do to impact even more lives.
What are you working on next?
I am working on an ongoing series called "Blooming Into Your Purpose" - to empower God's people and give them a platform to share their stories of trials and struggles in the past. It is through the sharing of those stories that the readers learn what pushed them into the purpose God has designed for them.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Dr. Creflo Dollar, John Eckhardt, and Dr. Paula Price.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My husband inspires me tremendously! He has been my everything. I appreciate how he works for our family and me. He proves his love and dedication daily. It is because of him that I am able to do what God has called me to do and build God's ministry.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I enjoy reading and studying God's Word, praying, and going for walks. I also love to spend my free time with my family and friends, going to the movies, or out to eat. I ENJOY life!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote? If so, what was it titled and what was it about?
The first story I ever wrote was when I was in the fifth or sixth grade. I wrote about a girl who got lost in the woods.
What is your writing process?
I follow God's lead. He called me to be a writer - among other things. I write about my life and how God has pulled me out of the ashes and brought me into His beauty.
Do you remember the first story you ever read? If so, what impact did it have on who you are today as an author?
I remember Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. It was an empowering story of a pig and a spider. It showed me to simply live my best life and be "me"!
Describe your desk or preferred writing atmosphere.
When I write, it is very crowded. I have to be in a very quiet place that has a view of the outside, have a good cup of coffee within reach, and just relax while letting God lead my steps.
How did where you grew up influence your writing?
I was a high school dropout. I came from a broken home. I was hooked on drugs. THEN, I gave my life to God in 1999. When God said to me, "I need you to write a book", I did just that. He then went on to say, "I am calling you to write MANY books." I am His willing vessel.
Do you prefer eBooks or print? Why?
I love books! I love the smell and feel of them. I like to highlight and make side notes in my books. I also tend to bend the page as a 'bookmark' to indicate where I left off.
How would you describe your individual writing style?
My personal writing style is that of transparency. If I must talk about my issues, failures, and shortcomings so another can be helped, so be it. The Lord promised ALL things (even failures, mistakes, heartaches, and pains) would work for my good. If me talking about my issues and successes brings someone closer to the Lord, to GOD be the glory!
