Interview with LaShanna Newton

When did you first start writing?
I have always been "expressive" but I started keeping track of my writings right after college. It was a way for me to account for my life's journey as well as alleviate stress.
What do your fans mean to you?
The MOST! My fans have inspired me to venture into an official author status. They have believed in me far longer than I have believed in myself. I can't say "thank you" enough.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I am fairly new to this so thus far I have utilized Facebook and Twitter. However, I have a very diverse resume which has allowed me to make numerous friends and colleagues that are accessible via social media. It is my plan to venture into other methods of marketing recommended by Smashwords.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing is a way to release my thoughts without judgment or interruption. I write when I am angry, happy, sad, excited, and/or bored. It helps me to maintain balance in my life.
What are you working on next?
The goal is to start with poetry. I also have some short stories as well as a romance novel to be released in the future. I like to vary things up a bit.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
God. Even when I don't want to get up and face the world, I remind myself that He sent His son to die for my sins so the LEAST I can do is be grateful that I was able to open my eyes and see the dawn of a new day.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Dancing. It is another one of my passions that keeps me balanced. I like all types of dance and was a dance instructor for many years. Of course my favorite show is So You Think You Can Dance. No talking allowed until commercial breaks:-)
What is your writing process?
It is quite sporadic and mood dependent. I may go several months without writing and then write five poems in one day. My process is consistently inconsistent.
