Interview with Lady Elizabeth Tullos

What motivated you to become an indie author?
Even as a young child, I knew there was a story or many stories that I needed to tell. My kindergarten teacher put me behind the piano because I wouldn't stop talking! I just didn't know how to write much at that time. Life is so darn interesting that it's impossible to keep from thinking about all the twists and turns that take people in every direction every day. I have a plethora of "what ifs." It took me a long time to be able to sit down and write my first book because of all those twists and turns in my own life but the stars aligned and I forced myself to sit in the chair and do it. I've always been an adventurer too. So far, writing Ivory Wild has been one of my greatest adventures. Becoming an indie author has been my greatest achievement.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans are everything! What fun would it be to write a book, or photograph a scene, or paint a portrait, or act, or sing, or dance, or any other creative effort if no one likes it or wants to be part of it? There's no point to doing any of the aforementioned if it isn't enjoyed. Fans are my best friends!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When I write fiction I get to create whatever I want. My characters can be real or fantastical. My story can be here or out there somewhere. My mind can go where no mind has gone before and I love, love, love the creative experience.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
The idea that I can present my book to millions of people all over the world is just mind boggling! I love Smashwords for giving me the opportunity. A very few years ago, it would have been close to impossible.
What is your writing process?
Depending on what I'm writing, I work out the main ideas and spread out from there. I am not an organized "let's make an outline" kind of writer. I want to know how the adventure ends and approximately how I'm going to get there and let the juices flow. I try to keep track of where I am by using a chart, however it gets pretty messy too. Sticking with a daily routine is paramount though. With my already busy life, I have to devote specific time to writing daily.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on the next story of the 'Wild Trilogy' called Irish Wild. It's a mystery-adventure set in Ireland with a 60ish, fiery redheaded female as the heroine. Watch out comes Mary Margaret! She will be making her debut in early 2016.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I don't have a lot of leisure time because I keep myself very busy. In addition to writing, I have four grandchildren, four doggies, a vegetable garden, a catering & specialty cake service, I'm on the board of directors for two local charities, and I love to travel. Not to mention a circle of fabulous friends to enjoy. My interests are unlimited. A few years ago, I went to Greece for three weeks. I took a year to drive from Boston to LA with my doggies and camera, and along the way, I enjoyed ghost hunting in several locations. Life is meant to be enjoyed and I want to get the most out of it that I can.
