Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Texas. I have lived in the city, but also on a farm and then a ranch so it is easy for me to write in these areas.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Opportunity, purpose, and love.
Describe your desk
A stack of lined paper, five sharpened pencils and a good vinyl eraser: my writing tools.
What surprising event has occurred because of your writings?
I got an envelope in the mail from a school in Oklahoma that I was not expecting. My daughter had taken one of my stories to school and the teacher read it to her class. Afterward, each student in that class wrote a letter or drew a picture and sent it to me in that single envelope. By the time I had went over the last one, I was in tears. Those letters and pictures are priceless to me.
Who are your favorite authors?
There are hundreds. I don't know where to begin.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I read and study to learn new things. I'm learning to fly a plane now. This is causing me to have Superman dreams.
What do your fans mean to you?
I read every letter myself. I am so fortunate to have fans that care enough to write me. I also have a photo album dedicated to those who send photos of themselves. When I travel, I plan to take some of those letters and pictures with me. Who knows, I might knock on your door one day.
What advice can you give your readers?
Closed doors can open. When they do, you need to be ready.
What is the most powerful sentence in the world?
I... love... you; no matter what.
Is it true your first book "The Guardian of Prayer" was placed on a website for FREE without your consent?
Yes. We all knew that it was a great childrens' story of redemption, but we had no idea people would like it that much.
