Interview with Laura Faulkenberry Howard

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I enjoy coming up with new ideas and thoughts for new pieces and jot down thoughts until it becomes an awesome poetry piece to add to my collection.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I generally look for authors that I am familiar with or authors that I want to learn more about and learn abut their writing styles
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I actually wrote a children's story for my children, I never had it published as it was only like 3 pages in length but it was something that helped me keep my children's attention on rainy days.
What is your writing process?
I generally think of ideas and writ's it out as a rough draft and I cross through things and rewrite until I have it to where I want it to sound perfect. I let others proofread at times to get their input.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't recall the first story that I read because thus woukd have been in grammar school.
I remember having to read a story in high scool called the Monkeys Paw. This story is one that we had a pop quiz on and no one in the class read the story so we all bombed the pop quiz.
How do you approach cover design?
I want the cover to reflect the imagery of the title of the book.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Heart Songs by Carolyn Petroski,
Aimee Bejarano books,
Billy Graham books,
Joel Osteen
And of course mine
What do you read for pleasure?
I like to read romance novels.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I don't have an e-reading device at the present time.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Self publishing was a great help for me. Connecting with other authors to help share our books and help each other out as well. Social media platforms to get the word out about our books
Describe your desk
It's mostly cluttered with the computer, oens, tape, sewing needles and the cordless telephone and the TV remote.
I have to have it this way to write.
I do tidy it up when company comes.over
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the South. My parents brought us up in church and I have always enjoyed writing poetry and I chose to wrote Christian poetry due to my Christian heritage and upbringing.
