Interview with Laurel Ostiguy

What do your fans mean to you?
I'll let you know when I really have one. Until then my friends and family that have supported me, truly mean everything to me. Sounds too simple of an answer, but sometimes, words aren't enough.
Who are your favorite authors?
Brett Easton Ellis, Carl Hiaasen, John Grisham, Harlen Coben, James Patterson, Nicholas Sparks, Stephenie Meyer
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
That I am able to.... that has got to make you feel lucky! Plus my two boys won't let me sleep in!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to ski, swim, take yoga classes, hang out with my boys and husband, go to concerts, spending time with my girlfriends, going on trips and having a nice glass of wine!.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
My husband is an avid reader so he is always giving me great suggestions!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, Marvin the Duck. I was probably 12 years old. I drew all the pictures, wrote the story and made it into a hardcover. I still have it!
What is your writing process?
I have learned so much over the past few years. I have my editor and beta readers to thank for all their guidance, suggestions and recommendations. I look forward getting feedback and hearing what other people see in my words. It's good to have it torn apart, I enjoy building it back up. I also learned to create outlines more and use them to develop the story appropriately. It keeps me on track.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
As a kid, I read every single Sweet Valley High book. I still think about them. I loved them. At the time they were perfect for me to gobble up and enjoy. Those series books really pull you in and make you want to go to the book store and get the next one. I still love that feeling today.
How do you approach cover design?
I was introduced to an incredibly talented woman. Romantic Book Designs. She asked me all the right questions about my story and I have to say, when I got the original proof back, I cried. She had created exactly what I wanted, it was amazing. Her method of getting to the root of your story through a picture is amazing. I'll absolutely use her again!
What are you working on next?
Bree's story. A woman who beta read my book said there was a story there. I had left enough of the unknown about Bree to write a second book. So I'm currently working on that. I'm excited to tell her story. She is a dynamic character! It has been interesting for me to focus solely on her. On her development and background, her thoughts and ideas, it's been interesting to build her up more. I'm enjoying this project.
What's the story behind your latest book?
i love thinking about fate and how we are "meant" to meet people. It has always fascinated me. Our decisions, as little as they may seem in the moment can lead us in so many directions. It is amazing how so many lives intertwine.
