Interview with Lauren Holt

What do your fans mean to you?
They mean more than I could express. It takes a lot to write a book and a lot of excellent books are not picked up by publishers. My work is of great quality, and I'm deeply grateful to those who give it a chance.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Knowing that I will help nearly everyone I come in contact with, and vice versa.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Songwriting and recording country folk music!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It wasn't amazing, but I put everything I had into it, and learned a lot through the process.
What do you read for pleasure?
Fiction with soul.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was 17. At first, I wanted to capture life; then, I realized that life was merely the inspiration for creating a whole new world.
What's the story behind your latest book?
A story of a father and daughter, learning how to love one another.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Going back through something I've worked on so carefully and feeling so glad that I have it my all. Pride, in short, and the humility underlying it. It takes a lot to write something well, effort and dedication more than anything else.
Who are your favorite authors?
Truman Capote, Jeffrey Eugenides, Victor Hugo, Italo Calvino, Leo Tolstoy
What is your writing process?
Write, let go, return sometime later, find the heart of it, remove the excess, add where needed, then read out loud to hear the rhythm.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes. It wasn't great, but I gave it my all, and I learned lasting lessons from it, not only about writing, but also about myself as an artist, namely what poor habits I have to watch out for.
