Interview with Lee Jackson

Published 2015-09-21.
What do your fans mean to you?
I do not consider people to be fans, I consider them students. I am sharing information with them that can expand their understanding of the world and the very unusual people in it. In some cases, the information can help protect them from potential dangers they would have not known otherwise.
What are you working on next?
I have several books already written. Many of these have been written long ago, but I never had a chance until now to publish them. They range from helpful and inspirational to shocking. Some books already finished but not yet available for sale are: From Hobo to Millionaire (true story about a man who at the age of 25 lived in the forest under a lean to, and at the age of 85 was worth millions) From Nerd to Jarhead (True and comical story of bookworm type kids who joined the Marines, this is a very factual hence NON politically correct story) Aliens Among Us (Kind of spooky and verified account of non humans living openly among us...You can SELF VERIFY) There are others as well, but these are among my favorites.
Who are your favorite authors?
Jules Verne, for his great imagination. Glenn Beck for his ability to find actual true but shocking stories. Also, many of the Newbery Award Winner authors are very exceptional. Of course many of the classic authors are amazing as well. I have thousands of books in my library, and yes I have read them all. There are too many great authors to list all my favorites.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I was told that as a small child, as soon as I woke up, I looked around and laughed, thrilled at the thought that I was alive, here and ready to begin a new adventure everyday. I guess I still feel that way.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing, I spending my time meeting and talking to people, learning about them. People are truly amazing if you just stop to listen to them. They can teach us, inspire us, and warn us of dangers.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Honestly, I did not know what an ebook was just a couple of years ago. Anything that comes up as an ebook, I have it printed out so I can carry the paper and read it. I like paper.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, in the 5th grade I wrote a story about the life of ants; their work, their frustrations, their battles along with their defeats and their victories.
What is your writing process?
I just quickly without stopping to think about anything, sit and make the whole book at one sitting, telling the story that I heard. Later I go back and make the story less choppy then fix my structure and grammar. I want it to be exactly what happened but with a smooth flowing style.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Harold's Purple Crayon when I was 4. It took me a long time with lots of questions to those around me. I was mesmerized at his magical ability to create life with a purple crayon.
How do you approach cover design?
I use about 20 different cover designers. At first I let them come up with their own ideas based on the synopsis of my story. I do provide them with a few guidelines but let them think freely about other points. After I get all the covers, then I take the best of all the ideas and I make new guidelines and then torture the cover designers until the follow the instructions to make what I want.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I would have to think about that one for a while because there are so many. I have always liked "Carson of Venus" since I was a kid. Others I would have to think.
What do you read for pleasure?
I like books that instruct you and help you in your life, OR books that show a man or woman overcome with difficulties, BUT with great perseverance overcame and conquered.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I do not have one. I print out and read on paper.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Again, there are too many potential marketing techniques to list here, but I am always experimenting.
Describe your desk
Very neat, perfectly orderly. My mess stays in a box on the floor so as not to get in my way.

"When the door opened on the other side of the room, everything stopped, like time was frozen. It felt like liquid darkness had just gushed through a gaping chasm. Cold chills raced up my spine and the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I desperately wanted to flee from the room, but I was nearly paralyzed by feelings of extreme nausea. I had just sensed an evil force enter the room."
