Interview with Johnathan Fisher

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I live in Illinois. The rolling plains and many trees influenced how the geography of my world would look in the places near Hampton.
When did you first start writing?
I began writing (or thinking and drafting on paper) in 6th grade. The book was not very good (Because I had recently read Eragon. It was basically the same story but with minor changes) but my style and thoughts developed over time.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Good question. I had thought one day that some animals do not live that long. A conversation arose with some friends of mine about a insect that would live 17 years, wake up for 24 hours, mate, and die leaving the eggs to hatch in 17 years. I felt amazed by this. And that is when Time To Live was born.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Since I am at a teen now, I feel that Smashwords and Wattpad are great ways to be able to show my writings to others. Maybe eventually I will become published. But for the present, this is fine with me.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing is expressing my thoughts to the world. A writer can never fully express what they want to show you as the reader. But expressing it the best we can for your enjoyment is what makes us happy. That is why I write.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my time thinking about writing, drawing, or playing the clarinet. Also, checking social media (on writing) and doing homework for sure. But I try to think about writing as much as I can.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
A Kindle. You can't bet the best! ^_^ (No offence to the Nook, but I prefer Amazon better on e-readers. Barnes & Noble wins on the real books any day)
Describe your desk
Books. Papers. Pencils of every sort. Dictionaries (lots of these). Novels, Notebooks, cluttered notes. My laptop. Anything writing, you name it!
What is your writing process?
1) Get one idea
2) Talk to self and plan out and expand idea
3) Research topic (If needed)
4) Write!
5) Edit when done writing
6) Post for others to read!
What are you working on next?
I will be working on some more Sci-Fi next. But I will also continue my fantasy series (I have 4 more books left)
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Knowing I am one day closer to the weekend, seeing my friends, writing, and knowing that the sooner I get the day over with the sooner I can sleep.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I browse.... ^_^
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. I thought at the time it was very original, but I was ripping totally off of Eragon.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I do not remember what story I read first, but reading has impacted me so much.
How do you approach cover design?
I found a picture I liked and liked the cover.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1) Lord of the Rings- It is Tolkien
2)The Hobbit- It is Tolkien
3) The Inheritance Cycle- Inspiration for young writers and great fantasy
4) Nicholas Flamel- Great series! Makes you rethink the world
5) I am Number Four- Amazing Sci-Fi
What do you read for pleasure?
YES! I LOVE Reading!
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. I would not write if it wasn't for them. They mean the world to me.
