Interview with A. Touchton-Selva

What is your e-reading device of choice?
Depends, usually I read on my tablet or on kindle. When I read the bible I like to read in paper form.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I am new to all this, so I am hoping Smash Words will give me the exposure I want. I also am on Word Press.
Describe your desk
My desk at the moment is a pillow.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I am a military brat, but most of my up bringing was overseas in a wonderful little town in Vicenza, Italy. I have always written, but I think that my education at Vicenza American high school really cultivated a love of reading. We were introduced not only to great English and American literature, but also Italian literature. Also, growing up in Italy, the art and culture still have a great influence on me---beautiful place, beautiful people.
When did you first start writing?
As soon as I knew how! I remember writing stories as early as nine or ten. I have always loved reading as well.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I am currently working on a story about a young woman coming to terms with ovarian cancer and how this turns out to be a catalyst for huge life change.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I think that there is so much good writing out there, so many stories to tell and the traditional way of publishing can be limiting--only a few are chosen to get there work out there. Indie publishing allows a forum for anyone who has always dreamed of writing a book. There is no excuse not to write that 'great American novel' now!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
That remains to be seen! I would be happy with just one person reading my short story at this point.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I can go any where and be anything. I can be someone completely different from myself and explore that safely.
What do your fans mean to you?
I don't have fans at this point, but I have a writers group, and we are tremendously supportive of each other. That means the world to me.
What are you working on next?
My goals at this point are to work on the Serenity Spa Healer series. I would like to present my profession in a more positive manner. I am also working on a fantasy story and a few other short stories. I am happily busy with a number of characters and different worlds.
Who are your favorite authors?
Many, but the ones I love the most are: George Orwell, Jane Austen, L.M. Montgomery, Leo Tolstoy, and Phillipa Gregory
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My faith
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I participate in a volunteer ministry, embroidery, spend time with my family.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually on Amazon or Book Bub
