Interview with Llya Harris

What are you working on next?
I am working on a teen fiction story called Dark Like Me.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Knowing that I can write or read something new.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading or watching television for new ideas. If I have a block or do not want to write or read, I go outside and walk around.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I have a Nook Color and I usually just search what I want to read.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do not remember.
What is your writing process?
I am a free writer and I love it. Just to able to jot down thoughts on paper in hopes that it will turn into a book is amazing.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I do not remember the first story, but I remember one of my favorite books was, "Are you there God, it's me Maragret"
How do you approach cover design?
I put a lot of thought into it. I try and incorporate what the book is about in the cover.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1. Finding my way -the struggles of the female character is amazing at how she comes through even in the most harshest things
2. Vampire Academy -the love of friendship
3. James Patterson Confession of a murder suspect -the suspense gets me
4. The Crucible -it's always been my favorite screen play to read ever since the tenth grade
5. Every Thug needs a lady -I like the over all book
What do you read for pleasure?
I read a lot of romance books and teen fiction. I was reading vampire books, but I needed a break from the magic and biting of humans.
Describe your desk
I don't have a desk, I have a sofa with a television and an ottoman. That's my work space.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Georgia and it really didn't.
When did you first start writing and why?
I started writing in the 2nd grade because it was a tool to help me understand what I was reading. Due to me having issues comprehending what the class was writing or reading, I didn't understand half the things. So, I started writing poems and short stories to help me. Who knew it would grow into more than a talent or hobby. It's a passion of mine.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Telling the story of my characters and the things they go through.
