Interview with L. M. Lacee
Published 2023-03-27.
When did you first start writing?
From as far back as I can remember I was always making up stories of faeries, dragons, witches and giants etc. I absolutely adored fairy tales when I was little so for me it was a natural progression to write fantasy and the romance part crept in from being an adult because who does not just love a good romance story. I don't know where my science fiction books came from but feel they are an extension of my fantasy books.
As my writing progresses I find I like the paranormal romantic stories.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Mine e-reading device of choice is an iPad because I have it plus I use my iPhone as well for convenience while I am travelling. I have heard Kindle are really good but will never afford one if my husband doesn't stop giving my books away!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
After several turndowns by the conventional gatekeepers to publishing my manuscripts my husband made a great point. He mentioned each gatekeeper is just an individual with an opinion and for whatever myriad of reasons they may have, my book wasn't for them. More importantly, that their decisions did not reflect accurately on whether my writing has an audience or not. He suggested we go Indie and have never looked back. So the answer would have to be my husband.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It has allowed me to quickly upload a reader magnet that I could set for free. This has allowed many people to get a taste of my writing for free. I have found this approach works well as they come looking for my other books.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to get my stories out and into the hands of those that appreciate my story telling abilities.
What do your fans mean to you?
They become a validation on my writing and also they are a group of people that show what positive reviews can do for my ego. They help me get more books out into the marketplace. The not so positive responders sometimes help me also with minor oversights. Just knowing there are people out there in the big wide world that not only read my books but enjoy them is a massive high for me.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on my Negotiator series, a spin off from Daughter of Ethos and my lightning Dragon series, a spin off from Dragon's Gap.
Who are your favorite authors?
I would have to say, Shelly Laurenston, Lee Child, Mercedes Lackey, Nora Roberts and Anne McCaffrey, to name a few.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Simple, morning coffee.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Touring with my husband, doing crafts that I enjoy. Anything from crocheting blankets to making dragon eggs. Not to forget reading varatiously.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I find them on Smashwords, Fantastic fiction and Amazon searches...
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was a romance about a woman that owned a trucking company and a logger.
