Interview with Loyce Bullock

Published 2016-07-05.
When did you first start writing?
I began writing at an early age, but never took it seriously until a few years ago when my thoughts and energy began to spill out on paper. I have always been selected by my friends to answer all of their important business and legal mail. I was always successful in conveying their thoughts and desires, which made for a more positive outcome and in their favor. I have an ex-business partner and fellow clergy who says, "Pastor Bullock, you are deadly with a pen!" So, I guess the old adage is true: "The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword!"
What's the story behind your latest book or series of books?
My latest inspirational booklet was set in motion as a tool for ministering to people who need encouraging - and have no clue how to ask for it. This book is my way of making people aware that we all have struggles, while understanding that there is a solution and we can be overcomers.
What motivated you to become a published author?
I was motivated to become a published author because that was a sure way for me to touch others' lives without the need to travel.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy of writing comes when someone makes a positive change in their life based on something that I have written. It doesn't matter the size of the change, as long as there is change.
What do your fans / followers mean to you?
I am not really looking for fans/followers as much as I am seeking the connection that builds friendships and brotherly- / sisterly-love.
What are you working on next?
I will doing more volume books. I also have three novels that have been in the preparation stage for many years.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Right now, I applaud and favor all of the authors who are a part of the Pearl Gates Publishing arena.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I am inspired each day to get out of bed because I know then that I have been granted another day to work diligently in and towards my purpose through God.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your "free" time?
When I am not writing, I spend my free time communing with the Lord and with my granddaughter...learning "kid stuff".
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote? If so, what was it titled and what was it about?
I don't really remember the first story I've ever written, but I DO remember that it was a children's story.
What is your writing process?
I write from the heart, which includes moments of disappointments, failures, triumphs, and all emotions that affect the daily lives that we lead.
Do you remember the first story you ever read? If so, what impact did it have on who you are today as an author?
I am a hopeless romantic. The first story I read was a love story that took place in some foreign country. The greatest impact was that even though I was a poor child from Texas, I could travel all over the world in books.
Describe your desk or preferred writing atmosphere.
The desk where I write is crowded with papers, pens, telephones, dictionaries, etc. Through all of the mess, I can tell if there is one paperclip missing.
How did where you grew up influence your writing?
I grew up in a little country town in Texas (population 506) where everybody knew everybody. My parents taught us to be respectful, so we had to hold our peace an awful lot. Basically, I learned to put my thoughts on paper as to not appear disrespectful.
Do you prefer eBooks or print? Why?
I prefer print to eBooks. I will attribute that to "old school" thinking.
How would you describe your individual writing style?
My writing style is serious and follows a heightened flow, yet it is understandable for all readers.
