Interview with Lucy Lit

What are you working on next?
More of the Sultry Savannah Series. There are six more planned unless other characters demand their own story. And that is a high probability because I'd only intended to write a trilogy. Go figure. ;)

Also, I have a spin off series modeled after a 1970s TV show and 2 standalone novels planned.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
LOL - 42 Rue de Jardin. I've done things out of order my entire life so others might be surprised that I don't have boxes of unpublished material stored under the bed. No journals, diaries, or scribblings on scraps of paper. Yep, I'm a late bloomer.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Don't remember the first book ever but the first romance was The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen Woodiwiss. I read my mother's copy so many times she gave me my own when I moved out of the house. It started my addiction to the genre. *grin*
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
A combination of recommendations from people I trust, reviews (good and bad - yes, I read both), book blurbs, websites. I look at a variety of factors. Most important is if the book touches a nerve and draws me in. I want to escape and feel good about a book so I tend to be selective in my tastes. LOL
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I read on an iPad. For a brief period, I used my phone but I'm a fast reader and ended up frustrated with the constant screen flipping to keep up.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The desire to race to the laptop and pound away on the keyboard while savoring pots of coffee. Seriously, I love seeing where the stories take me. I'm as much of an observer as the reader, watching the scenes play out. I just get to see them first.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the Midwest. My father was transferred several times for his career so I had the typical new kid in school syndrome. It taught me self-reliance and fostered the creative urge to make things up since I reinvented myself with every move.
Describe your desk
It's a vintage oak teacher's desk from an elementary school, circa 1950. Looks cool but it's terribly impractical for a laptop so I don't use it for writing.
When did you first start writing?
I've been involved with business writing for over twenty years, mostly business plans, marketing pieces for business journals and teaching business classes. I didn't start writing fiction until 2013 (told you I was a late bloomer), although some days I'd argue all business plans are fiction. *snort*
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing what happens to the characters and hearing from readers. I love to talk with them about their reactions to the book - the good, bad and ugly. Every one is different in what they enjoy (or not). It makes life interesting.
