Interview with Luke Orchard

When did you first start writing?
I remember writing short stories towards the end of primary school, in which I really enjoyed. I wrote a little in my GCSE'S, but have only just started writing properly since the new year.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It's about a man who is an abusive husband, gambler and suffers from depression. However after he discovers his wife cheating, he inadvertently discovers that he has been the victim of huge manipulation.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords gave me the opportunity to immediately take my story make it available to potentially anyone.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love the fact that you can create something without limits or boundaries.
What do your fans mean to you?
My mum means a lot!
What are you working on next?
The sequel to this one (Victim's addiction-queen of spades).
Who are your favorite authors?
I actually tend to only read autobiographys, so taking that into account, Michael Caine.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I recently have been suffering with anxiety so writing and publishing a short story was a goal I set for myself for a recovery programme. Now I have done it, I cannot wait to write the sequel!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I watch a lot of sport and like to play poker because it relaxes me. Apart from typical things such as socialising and spending time with my girlfriend (also a writer named Anna Scanlon), I act and perform stand up comedy!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Sort of. It was set in a school and I described the headmasters temper as an out of control lawnmower. I must have got a gold sticker for that one!
What is your writing process?
A storyline will hit me and I will jump straight in to writing. I then realise I am stuck and so go away and do what I should have done first- character profiles and a storyboard. After that I will set myself a goal of around 500 words per night. Hopefully I stick to it!
