Interview with Lydia Larue

When did you first start writing?
The first time that I wrote a novel was at the age of seven. I believe it was around 45000 words, but I assume that it was complete garbage.
What are you working on next?
I am working on a stand-alone romance novel that is set in Colorado. I will begin work on it October 8th. I am excited about it too. I hope others will be as well.
How do you approach cover design?
I did take Graphic Design classes in college. Also, I look up several covers for the genre that I am writing. For me, minimalism is the best approach. If it is a fantasy novel, I tend to only use a symbol followed by the title, subtitle, and my name. For a romance novel, I tend to create a more "involved" cover, featuring a man or a man and woman.
What is your writing process?
When I first started to write, I used a free writing method. However, I find it easy to draw up a timeline. When it comes time to write a synopsis, I can refer to it. Then, I will write the whole manuscript. This is followed by editing the first time. It will receive three edits by the time that the novel is ready for publication.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Wheeling, West Virginia. There were few children around when I was growing up, so the characters in stories became my playmates. I would write about several West Viriginian folktales.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean everything to me. They journey with me as I lead them down the paths of my story. While I still write for me, I also write for them too.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have a slew of favorite authors. Tolkien is one of my favorites. I will still read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. I must have read them over twenty times.
What do you read for pleasure?
Although I mainly write romance novels, I do read a medley of novelists. One of the authors that inspired me to write was J.R.R. Tolkien. After I first read the hobbit, I decided to write my own fantasy short story.

I love to read romance novels too. One of my favorites is Nora Roberts. Her command over written language is outstanding.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My daughter. She is a breath of fresh air. Her birthday was recently, and she turned ten. She tends to be like me when I was little. What does she want to be when she grows up? An author.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When am I not writing? There are rare occasions. I will play video games with my husband. Also, I will draw or paint. I am a creative individual.
Describe your desk
My desk is organized. I always have a cup of coffee to my right. On top of the desk's elevated surface, there is a stack of dictonaries, thesauruses, and several books that describes traits and emotions.
