Interview with Lynn Jenssen

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I teach first grade. As you can tell from the Latimer's Legacy series, I love children. They make me smile with their simple wisdom and their way of looking at and learning about the world.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I go first to my favorite authors but I also check on authors that are new to several writers groups I belong to. I love finding a new author, especially if they have several books available. I'm notorious for binge drives my family crazy!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes! It was called the Little Witch. I remember trying to think of the ugliest name. When I let my grandmother read the story, she was delighted because she thought I had named it after her. Her middle name was Gertrude. Oh dear. The perils of being a young author!
What is your writing process?
I get it on the page. I don't know the whole story when I start. I usually know several chapters ahead, and the major turning points in the story and the end. All the other stuff gets filled in as I go. Once its on paper, then I go back and seriously rewrite. It's not a neat process, or fast. But it's worked so far.
How do you approach cover design?
For the Latimer's Legacy series, I had an idea of what I wanted, talked to a graphic designer (daughter of a friend of mine) and she was able to take her own pictures and photoshop them to become the idea I had in my head. She is very talented. Julie Smith at LostinTranslationPhotography. Thank you Julie!
What do you read for pleasure?
I read romance - both contemporary and historical. Love it!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I read on my smartphone, tablet, Ipad. They are all in sync. I do still read paperbacks too!
Describe your desk
Aside from the clutter (which is going to get cleaned off soon), I have a dish of stones with inspirational messages, a picture of my mother, standing files to stay organized, and various pens, sticky note pads, etc. On the wall in front of my desk is a vision board that helps me focus, relax and set my muse free.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was about eight years old.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up on a small island with a year round population of about 500 people. It was a safe, close community. I write about small communities, seashore communities. The ocean is such a part of who I am, it has to be in my books.
