Interview with M. J. Elliott

What do you read for pleasure?
I don't have a lot of time to read for pleasure, but when I do, I like to read books that make me think about the world in a different light, books that are encouraging to the soul or that tell a story that takes my mind to another place.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
As young boy, it was always difficult for me to read and write. I struggled, and still do occasionally, with seeing words correctly and putting them on paper because of Dyslexia, ADHD and really bad eye sight. That all began to change when I received my first pair of glasses and with the blessing of my mother’s support. She struggled with some of the same things but always found a way to communicate what had been placed upon her heart regardless of what people thought. Her struggle was an inspiration to me and ultimately what gave me the passion I have for writing today.
When did you first start writing?
When I was a young lad, I was always creating stories to share with others, Over time shoe stories have become my passion and I love sharing them with those that will read them.
What's the story behind one of your books?
'Ahavah' Writings for the Journey is the result of experiences in my life as well as with the Family God has blessed me with. The purpose in sharing these writings with you is simply meant to be a bit of encouragement to all those that read it and to remind us all that our 'Ahavah' (Love) Journey with Christ is indeed a continuous journey.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Using the gift I have been given to inspire and encourage those around me.
What are you working on next?
I am working on a biblical fiction book entitled "Finding Philemon." It is a book about the biblical character of Onesimus who is formerly a slave serving Philemon. Join us as his life takes a turn for the worst. As we take a deeper look into the life of this unknown slave Onesimus, his life begins to unfold and his Journey of true servitude begins. Witness the drastic chain of events that will lead him down an unexpected path of righteousness in a quest to seek forgiveness from both his former master, Philemon as he learns what living is truly all about.
Who are your favorite authors?
Max Lucado, Gene Edwards, Francine Rivers, Paul the Apostle, Henri Nouwen, Bruce Marchiano, Jack Frost, etc
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My Family and desire to serve God in the best way possible.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend time with my wife and kids, or facilitating our ministry website, taking long walks, and Photography.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have a passion for reaching those in need of encouragement and of a Savior and I feel I have been given the gift of writing, so what better way to spread that encouragement and My Savior than through being an author.
