Interview with ML Steele

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Gardening, Reading, cooking, baking, camping , raising chickens , pigs, dogs & kids.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, as if it were yesterday. At least since I was an adult. I like to seperate my childhood writing from my adulthood writing, because they seem a whole world apart.
What is your writing process?
Usually, it is listening to music and drowning out everything else. I have to relax and just let the story come to me, whether I'm in the shower, "The Birth of Ebony Jackson" or someone saying something which triggers the thought of what if this happened and this became a book. "Vigilance in Disguise." Then once the idea is in my brain I sit in front of the laptop, music blaring in earbuds, and the movie begins playing in my head.
How do you approach cover design?
With the help of others!! I'm extremely tech ignorant , and have no artistic ability when it comes to drawing, so I get help from others.
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything and everything!! I love classics, like Jane Eyre, Gone with the Wind, Little Women, David Copperfield , etc. But I also love newer stuff, the Green Mile, Winter Solstice, Harry Potter, the Inheritence collection. Reading is like music, it depends on my mood.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Honestly... I prefer an old fashioned book.
Describe your desk
My desk, this is a laugh, it varies, as does my mood. Some days it is neat & organized and others, well... U couldn't find a thing on it. The funny part, I have no problem at either time finding what I need.
When did you first start writing?
The first time, was when I was around ten. I got my first child's type writer. I wanted to grow up and write books like so many of the people I admired did. I continued on through school, then it dropped off until around 2013, when a friend gave me an idea.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I'm actually working on two at once. A second for "The Birth of Ebony Jackson", and... A vampire novel. It was my first I wrote in 2013.
The vampire story is a story about my friends. TBofEJ is all imagination!!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Wanting to share my stories, my work, my worlds which live in my imagination with others in the world.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Honestly, I have only sold 2 books. I'm still trying to figure this all out.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Sharing the movies which play in my mind with others, through words.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are EVERYTHING!! I love for people to read what I write, I love their Critism, I love their ideas, I love everything about my fans!!
Who are your favorite authors?
I have many authors I love, from Charles Dickens, to Edgar Allen Poe, to J.K.Rowling, to Rosamunde Pilcher And so many more inbetween!!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Many things. My kids, my animals, my oven, my keyboard, anything and everything the day may bring. Every day is a gift waiting to be opened!!
