Interview with M. L. Mansfield

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The opportunity to write my dreams. Most of my novels has been the direct result of dreams and my unusual ability to continue a dream night after night.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love watching movies and reading.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
From a friend of mine, and fellow writer, who published there.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, Tanner's Turn, It was the front story to Racine's Mountain.
What is your writing process?
As I said before, I tend to write my dreams, which are never about myself or anyone I know. Sleeping is akin to watching a wonderful story in my head.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I'm sorry, I don't, but I would imagine it was something from the Harvard Junior Classics I read as a child.
How do you approach cover design?
Since this my first, I tried to show the forced isolation of the main character.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kindle Fire.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Gone With The Wind, for its multi complex story line and range of time covered.
To Kill A Mockingbird, for it's nostalgia qualities and story line.
The Silence of the Lambs, for it's page-turning thrilling and terrifying writing.
Bliss to you, Trixie's guide to a Happy Life, by Trixie Koontz, dog, as told to Dean Koontz, for it philosophy on life.
The Harry Potter Series, oh--to write with such aplomb.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I don't know yet.
Describe your desk
I'm very organized. My notes and ideas for stories are in separated note books, complete with character profiles, etc. They line the top of my desk with the exception of which ever notebook I'm working from at the time. I work on several story lines at time and the notebooks help to keep me focused.
