Interview with Lisa J Muir

What are you working on next?
I am working on a cool story about my lovebird "kiwi" who flew out the window one day and it was fascinating to watch the reaction of wild birds to a brightly coloured lovebird. I did manage to get her back..... thats when a story hit me.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
my kids..... and my animals as all of them depend on me.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have a young irish cob horse who I am training as a riding horse. I bred lovebirds so have 18 of them in a large avairy. I also love to mountainbike..... in fact love to be outside. love the mountains.
How do you approach cover design?
I usually have the main character on the cover..... giving a few ideas as to what the book is about. I like it to be brightly coloured to catch someones eye. The cover is very important.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have a Kobo that i snuggle up with at night :)
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
My late father Peter Kingston was a childrens book writer with 65 books to his name and a childrens TV series. I worked on some of his books with him when I was younger. he was a huge inspiration and mentor to me. He would constantly be correcting my terrible grammar!! I have basically followed in his footsteps. But my ultimate dream is to one day be able to give my kids a book I wrote and illustrated!!
When did you first start writing?
when I was 10.... loved to write animal stories on my school books and draw all over them.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Its a story my late father wrote before he died. Its based on our dog who we rescued many years ago...... he was a useless sheepdog...... but was great at herding kids on a beach. Rags would always come into my room when I was young and make sure I was in bed every night. I wanted to bring the story to life after my dad passed.
What do your fans mean to you?
inspiration, motivation and above all "fans" keep you going and wanting to do more. its not the money its the pleasure of knowing Iam making someone smile with my words.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
mainly on the internet surfing!!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
yes was called the enchanted forest.... beautifully illustrated that took me into the story and out of reality..... how kids books should be...... how I would like to do them if I ever get a publisher to print them.
