Interview with M.Y. David

Describe your desk
Wherever happens to be the closest and flattest surface I can get to when I feel the urge to write.
When did you first start writing?
I have written since I was first able to lift a quill.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in London, England and this did not influence my writing in any way whatsoever! In fact, lots of other things do, such as random "what if" thoughts that spring up in my mind as well as a great number of things that I encounter and/or witness on a daily basis to name but two.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing allows you to literally create your own universe (or universes depending on your inclination!) and control every aspect of it down to the tiniest detail. Who wouldn't want to do that?
What do your fans mean to you?
They truly are priceless; if I learn that somebody has taken the time to read my work, it fills me with excitement as I am genuinely keen to know their thoughts, good or bad. That is why I like to leave reviews for other authors wherever and whenever possible.
What are you working on next?
A novel which is slightly different from my usual work, but what I can promise is that you will certainly find it fascinating and entertaining as nothing like it has ever been written before...
Who are your favorite authors?
I really rather enjoy books by Stephen King (of course!), Tom Holt and Danny Wallace to name but a few.
What do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy reading humour (Tom Holt), horror (Stephen King) and bizarro (Carlton Mellick III) to name but a few genres; I don't have one specific taste - I like books/stories if they are good regardless of the genre that they fall into.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Sony PRS-650
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords is a wonderful tool created by people who are as passionate about writing as every one of us indie authors on here. The tools and platform they offer are not only free to use (thank you) but they are also actually very good; the quality is of the very highest standard, the process in which to upload your books and advertise them is smooth, simple and flawless, and the user base of Smashwords is immense - the perfect combination!
