Interview with Maggie Jagger

What are you working on next?
A new historical romance set in the Regency. My heroine is trying not to fall in love with her handsome hero. For those of you who do not know my books, handsome is not always first on my list of attributes for a hero. If this one is handsome, it's because he must have some flaws that are entertaining for the reader and the author.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, and I don't want to talk about it. At night I can hear it moaning from underneath the floorboards.
What is your writing process?
Sometimes it surprises me. Off we go armed with a great premise, or so I think, then suddenly someone refuses to jump that fence, or leap over that moat, or make love. I can't set off on my own, in a romance my characters have to agree with some of my ideas, but sometimes they won't. We argue. Sometimes I win.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up walking on the moor in England. Sometimes I use it in a book. Villains should beware of moors. They might not enjoy it as much as I did in Lord Jasper's Angel.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I want to repeat here that I do not spend all my time in the mens underwear department. Despite those rumors about me.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Lord Rupert's Foolish Bride is about a farmer's daughter who must marry a duke's son, and then it all goes horribly wrong in a funny way, Jenny is not a lady, she is used to trouble, and doesn't scare easily. She makes Rupert laugh. He would never call her his foolish bride. If it wasn't for the rest of his family there would be no story, because they'd meet, fall in love, and my job would be over in only twenty pages. How bad can his family be? You will have to read the book to find out.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
An indie author is a wonderful writer who can write exactly the stories she wants to write. No one is looking over her shoulder saying, you can't write that. Because I did write it, and it is in Lord Jasper's Angel, and I am fairly certain you will be surprised, and I hope it will make you laugh.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When the writing goes well, it is magical. It is like flying with my own wings.
What do your fans mean to you?
Thanks you, fans! May you live long and prosper and multiply, and leave reviews because you love my books.
