Interview with Manley Connikie

So Manley, Where are you from?
Originally I was born in Wolverhampton but I was raised in South London.
When did you first start writing?
Just the normal way, as a kid I was told to write stories at school, but I was also encouraged to write at home from quite a young age.
. What sort of stuff did you write at home as a child?
Poetry and short stories and then later during my teenage years the poetry expanded into writing rap lyrics.
Ok I noticed you mentioned rap lyrics, so I’m guessing you didn’t always want to be a writer?
Well yeah I have always wanted to be writer of some sort, as a child I wanted to be a journalist but by the time I hit my teen years being a rapper was much cooler. Writing was always an aspiration and publishing a book was always something I wanted to do, but it wasn’t until I got my idea for my first book “The Imagicans” that this became an actual goal, rather than a dream I would like to someday fulfil but never get around to completing.
What are you working on next?
My new book is called "The Wolf and the Sheep" and I'm also writing book 2 of "The Imagicans saga" called "The Secrets of the Imagicans"
When you write what effect do you try to have on your readers (if any)?
My intention is always to have the reader encounter abstract perceptions and perspectives so that the reader can begin to view life or a situation that they haven’t thought of before. My goal is essentially to attempt to expand the readers mind by forcing them to question and answer some of life greatest conundrums.
Who do you admire and why?
I admire my mother because she always been through struggles but she has constantly continued to achieve higher goals. She became successful as a young single mother with 3 kids and she is my hero and idol.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No, but I do remember making up stories at bedtime with brother and sister. Also they always seemed to have Lions and kings and queens and beasts, with us as the characters.
What type of books do you read?
I’ve read lots of informational books as a young man I was kind of soul searching I guess and I’ve always enjoyed philosophy and debates. So books of ancient wisdom and abstract belief systems, science, mysticism, magic etc. In terms of fiction books I enjoy thrillers and action and adventure.
