Ross Macdonald, Jim Thompson, James Elroy, James Lee Burke..
What are you working on next?
A story based on the moon landing hoax as part of a book of short stories.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
It's more of a necessity than an inspiration.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Job, reading, playing vinyl.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle.
What is your writing process?
I jot down ideas when they come to me, I find it's really important to keep notes of things before they fade from memory.
After that, If I'm motivated , I sit down and hammer away, I don't get distracted by other things on line and I try to get a couple of thousand words down at one sitting.
Describe your desk
I use a laptop on a fold up wooden table so that I CAN WORK JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read mostly thrillers, but a good writer can make most subjects interesting and I'll dip into biographies and historic things too.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I felt that I could write a decent story, and had a few ideas that seemed viable. I started with a couple of walking books because a lot of the available ones were so out of date and I wanted to spur people on to get outdoors. Then I started some fictional work and now I have a few items underway.
What do your fans mean to you?
If anybody gets pleasure from what what I've done, then that's amazing. Simple as that.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Either by following existing authors, or sometimes suggestions from various book sites.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
It was probably some terrible homework assignment way back in the day.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Probably "Attack Alarm" by Hammond Innes, when I was a kid I found his stuff really gripping.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I couldn't pick just five.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I don't really do a lot so I'm probably not the best person to ask.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the South of England, It didn't influence my writing at all.
When did you first start writing?
A couple of years ago.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It's simply a fast paced yarn, with hopefully a decent twist to it that people wont spot.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It gets my work out and about.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It's a satisfying hobby.
How do you approach cover design?
I try to link something from the storyline to the cover, and then persuade someone to create it.
